Our story

Our history
Bob Nelson as conductor started the String Orchestra for retired professionals and keen amateurs and named it The Clydeside Strings.
Bob retired before the onset of the pandemic in 2020. The enforced lockdown prevented the orchestra continuing. However, a small group got together to find a Conductor and were very fortunate to secure the services of Peter Jones as Conductor and Director.
Peter spent most of his professional life in the first violins of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He also conducted and was the conductor of several orchestras, his longest tenure was with the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra.
The Leader is Chris Ffaulkes who in his professional life played for many years with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
The Orchestra is still in a development phase and is recruiting to reach a membership of a minimum of twenty one players.
